General André Cox was born to European Salvation Army officer parents serving in Zimbabwe, whilst Commissioner Silvia was the daughter of European Salvation Army officer parents serving in Argentina. Their international childhood hinted at a global ministry they have shared, subsequent to their marriage, as Salvation Army officers since 1979. With their three daughters, Myriam, Esther and Sarah, the Coxes have lived in Africa and Europe, latterly holding territorial leadership responsibilities in the Finland and Estonia, Southern Africa, and United Kingdom Territory with the Republic of Ireland territories. It was on 3 August 2013 that the then Chief of the Staff, André Cox, was elected the 20th General of The Salvation Army.
As international leaders of The Salvation Army, the Coxes encourage the diligent reading of Scripture, the highest ethical standards that truly reflect sound biblical stewardship, and authentic Christian witness in which belief and behaviour are indivisible thereby ensuring the grace and love of Jesus are wholly reflected in daily living.
The General and Commissioner Silvia testify to God's generous provision throughout their lives which, in recent years, has included the great blessing of five delightful grandchildren, Rebecca, Lily, Leona, Wendy and Kevin.
